Beware of Plagiarism

Wednesday, September 30th, 2009 | Author: sdballz

We saw on Mercedes M. Yardley’s BLOG today that someone has been going around, submitting plagiarized stories to small horror magazines, etc.  Not only is this person rewriting Stephen King stories, but new writers are falling prey, as well.  Here’s another EXAMPLE and yet ANOTHER.

And apparently, this person is DEAD.  So it’s probably not his/her real name.  Now that the offender has been exposed, he or she may simply pick another name and keep at it.

So be on alert, both publishers and writers.  If a publisher gets an email submission from this person, perhaps you can turn the email over to authorities for tracking purposes.

We can only imagine what kind of a douche would do such a thing.

There is a stranger among us and he poses as one of us.

I don’t think he realizes how small the publishing community really is, especially in the speculative fiction markets.

Thanks for posting this, you guys. That’s fantastic.

I’m getting word that he isn’t only submitting to horror markets. He’s also submitting to fantasy and mainstream markets. A couple members of the British Fantasy Society were saying that they had received submissions of “The Boogeyman/Baboulas” as well. Apparently quite a few people have his stories in their slush piles as we speak.

That’s good to know, Mercedes, thanks!

Thanks for letting people know. Let’s get the word out!
